Bottom line up front · editorial assessment by Hank Whitlock, It’s Georgia editor

Can I reuse It’s Georgia’s data, and what is it actually good for?

Yes. All 9 datasets are free to download as CSV and JSON under CC BY 4.0, with no signup and no API key, as long as you credit It’s Georgia and link to the dataset page.

That is 1,660 records, each read from a primary source: the attraction’s own website, gastateparks.org, NOAA climate normals, the USGS elevation model, OpenStreetMap routing or the event organizer’s page. Where a source publishes nothing, the field says “not published” instead of a guess. The most practical use is planning a trip: sort the drive-time matrix from the nearest of its seven cities, filter the state-parks table by dog rules and overnight options in a spreadsheet, and check the event calendar before you book. Keep the checked date next to any figure you copy, and confirm prices and dates on the operator’s page before you go, because parking fees and festival dates change from year to year.

How the data is produced

Every dataset starts from a primary source, and each dataset page names its sources: admission, parking, pet and stroller policies from each attraction’s own website; park facts from each park’s page on gastateparks.org; weather from NOAA’s 1991–2020 U.S. Climate Normals; elevations from the USGS 1-metre digital elevation model; drive times from OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM); event dates from each organizer’s page; suburb figures from the Census American Community Survey 2020–2024.

Nothing is filled in with averages or estimates. Where a source publishes nothing, the value is recorded as not published. Each JSON download is generated from its CSV, and the File updated column above shows when each file was last rebuilt. How we check figures is set out in our editorial standards, and re-checks are logged on the verification log.

Known limits

  • “Not published” is not “no”. A blank dog policy or admission price means the operator does not publish it, not that dogs are banned or entry is free. Call ahead.
  • Cost totals are a floor, not a price. The day-out figures count published admission and parking only; unpublished prices are left out of the sum rather than averaged in.
  • Drive times assume free-flowing roads. They are routed on OpenStreetMap with no traffic, roadworks or stops, so real trips from Atlanta at rush hour run longer.
  • Weather is a 30-year average, not a forecast. NOAA normals describe a typical month, not this week.
  • Fall color windows are a model, not a forecast. They follow the usual elevation pattern; a warm or dry autumn shifts them.
  • Dates and prices change. Each row carries the date it was checked. Confirm on the operator’s or organizer’s page before you travel.
  • Coverage is deliberate, not exhaustive. The datasets cover the places our guides cover, not every venue in Georgia.
